WEEE, batteries and packaging regulations have been introduced in Moldova under the Law on Waste. The purpose of this law is to transpose the EU WEEE, Batteries and Packaging Directives.
Regulation on waste electrical and electronic equipment (212/2018)
Registration deadline: 1 January 2019
Scope: 10 category scope of the original EU WEEE Directive (2002/96/EC)
Collective (via a PRO) or individual compliance
Collection targets: 5% in 2020 gradually increasing to 30% in 2025
Regulations on the management of batteries and accumulators (586/2020)
Registration deadline: 28 May 2021
Scope: portable, industrial and automotive batteries
Producers of portable batteries to join a PRO
Collection targets for portable batteries: 25% by 2023 and 45% by 2025
Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (561/2020)
Registration deadline: 21 November 2021
Scope: All packaging placed on the market, regardless of the material from which it was made
Collective (via a PRO) or individual compliance
Recycling targets: 5-15% in 2023 gradually increasing to 15-60% in 2029
